The new rules will also cover goods and materials which are treated with biocidal products, such as furniture and food packaging. The European Commission's Joint Research Centre provides scientific support to the revision of the Directive through the risk assessment for substances notified in the Review Programme and by leading the projects for the implementation of the new Biocides Regulation. From January 2014, the JRC will hand over these activities to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
