Lunch meeting on Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC)
European Parliament, Brussels 11 February 2014
At the request of the European Cancer Patient Coalition, the JRC was invited to an invitation-only event on the topic of Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC) hosted by Emma McClarkin-MEP (ECR-UK), Minodora Cliveti (S&D, RO), and Anna Záborská (EPP, SK). The Finsbury International Policy & Regulatory Advisers (FIPRA) organised the event with DG SANCO, Europa Donna, European Cancer Patient Coalition, the Association of European Cancer Leagues and Novartis Oncology also present. The JRC was represented by Donata Lerda who gave a presentation entitled: JRC contribution to improvement of patient outcomes: A Europe-wide and evidence-based initiative on breast cancer.
As coordinator of the European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer (ECIBC), the JRC provides a platform for stakeholders and experts for developing European guidelines and an associated European quality assurance (QA) scheme on breast cancer care. The JRC's presence and input at this meeting ensured that the guiding principles of the ECIBC, namely the need for evidence-based policies (the Guidelines) and the need to provide an open-source platform of European-wide quality indicators (the European QA scheme), were clearly explained in view of future follow-up actions.
