On 10 June 2008, the European Council invited the European Commission to explore the potential to develop a voluntary accreditation scheme for cancer screening and follow-up of lesions detected as well as to develop and update evidence-based guidelines on cancer.
The Joint Research Centre has taken up the challenge and this workshop will bring a panel of experts together to discuss and endorse these projects.
Accreditation schemes, in unison with development and uptake of common European health-related guidelines, will form a basis for rolling out best practices in health-care thus driving Europe's quest to reduce the burden of cancer.
Experts and stakeholders, ranging from epidemiologists to surgeons and from patients associations to literature review experts were invited and have confirmed their presence for this 2-day workshop. The main outcomes of this key-meeting and the presentations given will be posted on this website.
