On 10 June 2008, the European Council invited the Commission to explore the potential to develop a voluntary accreditation scheme for cancer screening and follow-up of lesions detected as well as to develop and update evidence-based guidelines on cancer.
The Joint Research Centre has taken up the challenge and this workshop will bring a panel of country
delegates together to discuss and endorse these projects.
Accreditation schemes, in unison with development and uptake of common European health-related guidelines, will form a basis for rolling out best practices in health-care thus driving Europe's quest to reduce the burden of cancer.
The Workshop on the proposal for a voluntary EU accreditation scheme for breast cancer services and the further development of the European breast cancer guidelines dedicated to countries delegates will be taking place on 13-14 March 2013 in Ispra, Italy.
Country delegates from 26 Member States and Croatia, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland are expected to participate.
