On February 8 and 9, 2012, the European Commission Joint Research Centre, Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP), participated in a scientific conference on the health risk assessment of nanosilver organised by the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) in Berlin.
Contributions were provided by Elke Anklam (Director, IHCP), Hermann Stamm (HoU, Nanobiosciences Unit, IHCP) and Douglas Gilliland (Nanobiosciences Unit, IHCP).
The aim of the conference was to provide an overview of the current scientific state regarding the production and application of nanosilver in consumer products and food, including aspects like identification and analytical characterisation, exposure, toxicology and risk assessment.
Douglas Gilliland was invited to give a presentation about "Physicochemical Characterisation of Nanoscale and Colloidal Silver" (downloadable below).
The organiser has recently uploaded on the BfR web site other presentations given at the conference.
